Five English players were called in the ICC's Test team of this year, shimmering England's climb to the No. 1 ranking, accomplished throughout their 4-0 whitewash of India earlier this month. Two remarkable batsmen, Alastair Cook and Jonathon Trott, and three bowlers, Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann and James Anderson, completed the XI, but there was no position for Ian Bell in spite of his averaging 89.50 and completing four hundreds during the eligible time commencing from August 11, 2010 to August 3, 2011.
Dale Steyn, the South African fast bowler, ended the team for the fourth straight year, while Sachin Tendulkar was mentioned to the team for the third continuous year. Three South Africa batsmen, Hasim Amla, AB de Villiers and Jacques Kallis, in addition of Kumar Sangakkara, the former Sri Lanka captain, finished up the rest of the XI, while India fast bowler Zaheer Khan was called 12th man. Sangakkara was named captain and wicketkeeper, although he is no longer performers either role for Sri Lanka in Test.
